Did You Know? Important Information

• According to the manufacturer's specifications and local codes, dryer ducts are required to be a minimum of four inches in diameter and at least as large as the dryer outlet.
• The developed length of your dryer's exhaust duct should never exceed a maximum of 25 feet, unless noted by your dryer's manufacturer or local code. (When determining developed length, each 90-degree turn adds five feet to the actual length.)
• Dryer vents are required to be independent of all other systems and terminate outdoors, not into a chimney, attic, or crawl space.
• Your outside dryer exhaust vent's termination hood should be equipped with a backdraft damper to help ensure that the exhaust does not come back into your home.
• Metal transition ducts should be used between the exhaust duct and the dryer.
• Flexible transition ducts should never be used inside of a crawl space, attic, or in a wall.
